My name is Alafia Parker, I have been licensed by the state of Ohio to practice social work for over the past three years and in the field for the past six. I began working in the field at the age of 21 with young boys with Autism, later transitioning to a supervisory role in a residential treatment facility for adolescents with mental health and substance use challenges. I have provided services in residential treatment facilities, daycares, schools, the community, client’s homes, and in the office.
My clinical expertise includes addressing trauma issues, Nationally Certified as a Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Therapist; substance use issues, credentialed as a Chemical Dependency Counselor Assistant; extensive work with anxiety, depression, and those within the LGBTQ+ community. Lately, my passion has grown extensively in working with fathers and the challenges of parenthood, being a new father myself.
My personal style is implementing a task-management approach which requires clients to practice skills between sessions and review the effectiveness of interventions so that client’s get the most out of my services. Lastly, I focus on strengths and skills to build client’s confidence in managing their challenges and their lives.
