How I Know Therapy is Working
You will feel lighter, you wake with decreased crippling anxiety or depression. You will love yourself despite everything and because of everything.
What Inspired Me to Become a Therapist
Therapy is self care. It has the stigma as only being for people with mental illness or problems. Instead it's a tool people can use to keep the mind healthy and lower stress. Similar to how the gym helps maintain fitness. My desire to lift others up started childhood, I gravitated to people who needed a friend. In college my best friend told me "I have an uncanny ability to make people feel good about themselves". Empowering people to become the best version of themselves drives me. I have hurdled many walls and having someone next to you while you do it makes a huge difference. You don't have to face everything in life on your own. It takes courage to choose to work on ourselves. It takes courage to ask for help.
What to Expect When Working with Me
My compassion is direct. I feel it's important to face facts, including painful ones. The goal is to work through each event or emotion so you can process it and move on to the next stage. We share openly and don't sugar coat. In therapy we face our darkness so it no longer holds us hostage. That looks different for everyone so I focus on patient centered and directed care. I strongly encourage gratitude as part of my process.
My Hobbies
I have chickens I love spending time watching, each with their own unique personalities. I find myself laughing out loud when no one is around. I collect sea glass and read for relaxation. I'm emphatic that our mental health and physical health are equally important and connected. Included in my daily routine is some sort of exercise. Running is my default exercise. However I love soccer, played it most of my life into adulthood! Disconnecting from social media is important to calm the mind and I set a 25 minute timer because it's easy to go down the rabbit hole. I'm drawn to water and nature, both have healing and calming effects on me. Last but not least, my favorite activities involve my kids and husband!! I keep a heart full of gratitude.
Areas of Passion & Expertise
With over 23 years in the field I have had the opportunity to work with a diverse group of individuals including patients who have addiction issues, PTSD, mental health diagnosis, end of life, teenagers, young adults, adults and senior citizens. Every person I work with feeds my desire for empowerment. I'm passionate about teaching self love, and everybody deserves the opportunity to learn how.
