Alafia Parker
Clinical Therapist
Who I Am as a Therapist
My name is Alafia Parker. I have been licensed by the state of Ohio to practice social work for over the past three years and have worked in the field for the past six. I began working in the field at the age of 21 with young boys with Autism, later transitioning to a supervisory role in a residential treatment facility for adolescents with mental health and substance use challenges. I have provided services in residential treatment facilities, daycares, schools, the community, client’s homes, and in the office.
My clinical expertise includes addressing trauma issues—I'm Nationally Certified as a Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Therapist; substance use issues—credentialed as a Chemical Dependency Counselor Assistant; and I have extensive experience working with anxiety, depression, and those within the LGBTQ+ community. Lately, my passion has grown extensively in working with fathers and the challenges of parenthood, being a new father myself.

How I Know Therapy is Working
Therapy is working when you begin to apply the skills we’ve discussed, feel more empowered in your daily life, and notice a decrease in distressing symptoms. Progress also looks like growing insight, increased resilience, and the ability to navigate challenges with more clarity and confidence.
What Inspired Me to Become a Therapist
From a young age, I was drawn to helping others and making a positive impact in people’s lives. My early experiences in mental health settings showed me how vital compassionate support and practical tools are for healing. As I grew into my professional identity, I became especially motivated to help underserved communities and fathers navigating their roles.
What to Expect When Working with Me
My approach is structured, practical, and supportive. I use a task-management model that encourages skill practice between sessions so clients see real progress. I focus on identifying strengths and helping clients build confidence in their ability to manage life’s challenges. You can expect a respectful, goal-oriented environment where your voice and experiences are honored.
My Hobbies
Outside of therapy, I enjoy spending time with my family, exploring new music, watching documentaries, and staying active through sports and fitness. I’m also passionate about personal growth and like to read about leadership, parenting, and emotional wellness.
